The following rules and regulations apply to participation in the Digital preservation Challenge:

  • An award, known as the Digital Preservation Challenge, is open to students currently enrolled in higher education institutions.
  • The competition is open to students from any country.
  • The competition is open to individual students in all disciplines, however it is envisaged that students in computing science, engineering, or information science programmes are most suited to the specific requirements of this challenge.
  • The competition is open to individual entries only - team efforts will not be accepted for consideration.
  • To be eligible to enter, participants must register to become a member of the DPE user community. There is no fee involved in joining the DPE user community.
  • Winners of the Digital Preservation Challenge are not eligible to enter any subsequent Digital Preservation Challenges organised by DigitalPreservationEurope.
  • All submissions will be reviewed by an evaluation panel comprising of international experts and practitioners in the field of digital curation and preservation.
  • The prizes shall be awarded based on the thoroughness and clarity of the procedural documentation of the submission rather than on the overall outcome. In this respect, it is possible that an entrant who is not successful in solving the complete task may still be awarded the top prize.
  • A list of prize-winners will be published in the DigitalPreservationEurope (DPE) Newsletter and on the DPE website. This list may also be published by the European Commission, DPE partner institutions, or by other digital curation and preservation projects including PLANETS, CASPAR, and the Digital Curation Centre (DCC).
  • All applicants grant the partners in DigitalPreservationEurope (DPE) the right to make all submissions publicly available via the DPE website and/or via DPE partner websites if the judges of the challenge decide to do so.
  • The decisions of the evaluation panel are final.
