The British Library has a dedicated cross directorate Digital Preservation Team (DPT) which has an international reputation in the field. It is currently composed of 8 full time staff and is expected to be 12 strong by summer 2007.

The key areas of focus for the DPT include:
- Technology, analysis and support for the design and implementation of the National Digital Library
- Production of preservation plans for new content streams of digital materials which will be stored in the National Digital Library
- A risk assessment of all digital collections held by the BL
- Implementation of a digital preservation testbed environment to facilitate technology watch activities
- Collaboration with national and international initiatives such as PREMIS
