JOANNEUM RESEARCH offers IT solutions for the preservation of cultural heritage.
In the museum's domain, IMDAS-Pro (http://www.imdas.at/) is one of the leading solutions for the electronic documentation and administration of museum objects. It was developed by JOANNEUM RESEARCH together with internationally renowned museologists and can be readily adapted to individual requirements. Many major museums and smaller collections (about 500 licenses sold) already benefit from the advantages of this all-in-one solution.
The Integrated Project PrestoSpace (http://www.prestospace.org/) with the participation of JOANNEUM RESEARCH provides technical solutions and integrated systems for digital preservation of all types of audiovisual collections. It provides tangible results in the domain of preservation, restoration, storage and archive management, content description, delivery and access. Economic factors supporting preservation services are being addressed. The principal aim is to prepare the way for preservation factories providing affordable services to all kinds of collection custodians in order to manage and to allow access to their assets.
JOANNEUM RESEARCH located in Graz, Austria is a non-profit technology centre, concentrating on applied R&D with a highly qualified staff of more than 380 people. Their service includes specifically geared development tasks for small- and medium-sized companies, complex interdisciplinary national and international research assignments as well as tailored techno-economic consulting. They participated in setting up and running national competence centres and numerous large international projects.
The Institute of Information Systems & Information Management (http://www.joanneum.at/iis/en) focuses on intelligent web based systems and digital media. Since FP4 the Institute has participated in more than 40 EC projects. One outcome of early projects is DIAMANT, one of the leading commercial digital film restoration systems. JRS carries out R&D into content-based indexing & retrieval in conjunction with MPEG-7 and semantic technologies for content production, workflows and distribution. JRS has been involved in several EU and national projects dealing with the development of IT solutions supporting various aspects of the preservation of cultural heritage, e.g. the EU projects Presto, Malvine, LEAF, Dominico and BIRTH. During FP6 JRS has coordinated the SALERO, CLINICIP and Aposdle IPs as well as DirectInfo and MediaCampaign. The institute participated in the IPs PrestoSpace, IP-RACINE, NM2, in the NoE K-Space and in SEMEDIA, porTiVity and Polymnia.
