NGI is the national mapping agency for Belgium. We put special effort in the digitalization of our historic map and photo collection. The focus is put on opening the geographical content of these maps and aerial photos to the user of (digital) geographical information, be it the general public or the GIS professional. Our goal is to be able to provide the information in a form compatible to the actual geographical data and techniques, and to include the information in the national data infrastructure, complementary to the actual geographical information required by the new INSPIRE directive. Staff and funding info given below is referring to the entire NGI. Activities relevant to the survey are only a minor part, in comparison to the main goal (the update of the topogeographical inventory of the Belgian territory).
