RELEASED: The International Survey of Institutional Digital Repositories

The study presents data from 56 institutional digital repositories from eleven countries. The 121-page study presents more than 200 tables of data and commentary and is based on data from higher education libraries and other institutions involved in institutional digital repository development. RELEASED: PRONOM and DROID - new versions

The National Archives is pleased to announce the release of major new versions of its PRONOM technical registry and DROID automatic file format identification tool. The latest version of PRONOM has also been designed to provide a characterisation registry service to the EC-funded Planets project. More Info

Sun Preservation and Archiving Special Interest Group formation announced

Sun Microsystems, Inc. today (October 8th) announced the formation of the Sun Preservation and Archiving Special Interest Group, Sun PASIG, to bring together global leaders in government, broadcasting, education, and library services to share best practices for digital archiving.
Founding members of the Sun PASIG include The Alberta Library, The British Library, Johns Hopkins University, University of Oxford, Stanford University, The Texas Digital Library, and other leading global libraries and universities.

Third Digital Preservation Award 2007 Winner Announced

An innovative tool to analyse and identify computer file formats has won the 2007 Digital Preservation Award. The prize was given to The National Archives for its work on active preservation through the development of two tools: the PRONOM Technical Registry and DROID file format identification.

RELEASED: A beta version of the Automatic Obsolescence Notification Service (AONS)

The service provides support to repositories anywhere around Australia (or in fact globally) for managing format obsolescence of digital materials. Users can register with the service by providing a URL to a repository's format scan summary. The AONS service will display the summary and allow a repository manager to compare the formats of items in their repository with information from format registries such as PRONOM and Library of Congress. International Internet Preservation Consortium Opens Membership for 2008

The International Internet Preservation Consortium (IIPC) is now accepting 2008 membership applications from institutions engaged in or very interested in web archiving activities. The IIPC is an organization dedicated to collecting and preserving Internet content and fostering the development and use of common tools, techniques and standards that enable the creation of international archives. The deadline for 2008 membership applications is October 1, 2007. More Info
